Exhibition Jan Palach ‘69
The exhibition was one of the events commemorating the 40th anniversary of the self-immolation of Jan Palach, which were organized by the Faculty of Arts, Charles University together with the National Museum, the Institute for the Study of Totalitarian Regimes and the Security Services Archives. Its authors were Petr Blaže Jakub Jareš and Patrik Eichler, designed by the artist Jáchym Šerých.
The exhibition presented the life of Jan Palach in the historical context of the 1960s through archival documents, photographs, video recordings, and objects from that time (including all of the final letters of Jan Palach). Ryszard Siwiec, Jan Zajíc, and Evžen Plocek also received attention.
The exhibition was opened for the first time from 15 January until 14 February 2009 in the Karolinum. For the second time, it was opened from 23 April until 4 June 2009 in the Slovak National Museum Bratislava.
